Dr. Shawna Yates is proud to be fifth-generation Butte Irish – she returned home in 2007 to begin her family medicine career at Southwest Montana Community Health Center, while also taking on the role of Medical Director. Shawna received her osteopathic medical training at Western University in Pomona, California, and Family Medicine Residency training at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City. She is a former National Health Service Corp (NHSC) scholarship recipient and remains in service to her underserved community. She believes all should have access to basic health care and preventive measures to meet basic needs.
Dr. Yates participates in the education of future health professionals in her clinical practice at SWMTCHC, and is on the faculty at the Department of Family Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine. She is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Hospice and Palliative Care. Most of her patient focus is on graceful aging. She sees patients over the age of 80 and any resident of an Assisted Living or Nursing Home in the area. Outside of work, Dr. Yates enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, hunting and fishing, and enjoying the great state of Montana.
